Jonathan was born and raised in Turlock. After converting to Catholicism in high school, he joined Mar Abba Chaldean Catholic Seminary after high school while attending John Paul the Great Catholic University and that his where his love of learning really developed. The classics and the great philosophers captivated his mind and showed him the radical difference between contemporary public education and the richness of a transcendental education. He decided that he did not have a vocation to the priesthood at that time, left the seminary, and eventually transferred to Franciscan University of Steubenville (FUS) where he obtained an accounting degree. Jonathan met Katharine, now his wife, while at FUS and lived in the suburbs of Washington D.C. Jonathan became Certified Public Accountant while working in financial consulting, but the birth of their first daughter Lucy, 3, made them yearn to be in a smaller city that could support their lifestyle and values. That is when they moved to Turlock, and they are now joined by three new additions to their family: Therese, 2, Alexei, 1, and Mary (newborn, not pictured). Jonathan is a Master's degree candidate in Executive Nonprofit Administration at the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame.
He is starting a classical academy because he has a vision of an education for his children that is best carried out by classical education. He hopes for his children to principally be formed as saints with the pursuit of excellent academics as a natural consequence of that formation.
Jonathan brings his accounting expertise and knowledge of school operations to HMSOW. His education at Notre Dame is focused on nonprofit leadership and management and he brings industry best practices from around the country to ensure an efficient and effective organization.
Kieran was born in Reading, England. Being raised in a Catholic family, he began to take his faith seriously in his mid-teens when he started attending various vocations retreats. He applied to seminary at the end of secondary school, but then sought out serving with NET Ministries as a means of further discernment, and NET brought him to the U.S. for the first time in 2010. Kieran returned to his homeland in the U.K. to earn an undergraduate degree in Philosophy after 10 months of missionary work in Catholic schools and parishes and a realization that God was not calling him to join seminary. Studying at a secular institution instilled a deep-seated desire to deepen his intellectual knowledge of the faith. That desire led him to return to Minnesota to pursue a masters degree in Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas. During this time, he reconnected with his now-wife, Kayla Driver, who was temporarily based in St. Paul for work. The two married in January 2016 and decided to return to Kayla's hometown, Turlock, CA when Kieran graduated and they were growing their family.
Kieran has since worked in education, first in substitute teaching, progressing to full-time instruction in theology, and now as an administrator. Kieran's passion is for developing formation of character through fostering virtue and a desire for personal holiness within youth. As a father of one with a second child to come, Kieran has become committed to establishing a school of the classical liberal academy model. Being in education helped him recognize the deficit of such education within the Central Valley, and the value it can bring to the community around.
Kieran brings an understanding of school instructional operations and techniques. When Kieran combines his intimate knowledge of the classics and the pedagogical opportunity for true freedom that they communicate, he is able to design and facilitate educational techniques that best fit our Christian anthropology and have been tried and tested through the course of time and the history of the Church.
